Donald Trump Twitter Parody Attempts to Explain Ultrarunning

This is what would happen if Trump knew ultras were a thing

Perhaps it was inevitable: Someone with the handle @TrumpTalksUltra has taken on the persona of the Republican presidential candidate to tweet about ultrarunning. (Thanks to UltraRunnerPodcast for first bringing our attention to it.)

It's less "imagine Trump was an ultrarunner," more "somebody told Trump that ultrarunning was a thing."

Here's the account's first tweet, from early yesterday morning:

Whoever is behind the account has tweeted an impressive ten times since, throwing esoteric ultramarathon references in with familiar campaign themes and that one-of-a-kind Donald Trump syntax:

And @TrumpTalksUltra's dedication to realism even extends to a sometimes shaky grasp on what should be straightforward facts, like what an ultramarathon actually is (really, 10 miles?):

Who's behind the parody, and why did they come up with it? I reached out to @TrumpTalksUltra to try to find out, but he declined to comment. At least, I thought he did. It's a little hard to tell, because he stayed in character:

Then he got in touch via direct message, and I asked why he started tweeting about ultras. He responded, but the mystery lives on:
