WATCH: Running the Owyhee Canyonlands
Trail runner Jereme Monteau seeks to raise awareness for this threatened area, by running through it.

At 2.5 million acres, the Owyhee Canyonlands is one of the largest unprotected wildernesses in the country. The area is home to a huge, volcanic canyon and dozens of endemic and endangered species- and it’s one of the last “dark spots” in the continental United States, where there are no artificial lights to dilute the night sky.
But, without official protection as a National Monument or Wilderness Area, the Owyhee is under threat from encroaching mining and energy interests.
With Osprey, Keen and Ibex, filmmakers Dan Holz, Evan Kay and James Q. Martin produced this movie about the many different kinds of athletes and outdoor enthusiasts who spend time in the Owyhee. This short is about trail runner Jereme Monteau.
