Patagonia ForeRunner EVO (Fall 2013)
9.1 oz | 4mm drop | $120 | patagonia.com
The Dirt: A lightweight, all-around trail shoe, the ForeRunner EVO promotes midfoot striking with a low heel-to-toe drop. A leather toe bumper guards against rock and scree.
Drainage ports promote quick drying, a feature testers lauded for its effectiveness after creek crossings.
Minimal cushioning keeps the shoe light and nimble, though some testers complained that the relatively firm midsole feels “flat.”
Best For: Medium-distance runs on technical trails in dry or wet conditions.
Traction: Testers universally praised the tread, which excels on everything from gravel to wet rock to technical terrain.
Fit: The ForeRunner EVO fits quite wide. Narrow-footed runners will find it sloppy.
The Downsides: Too many overlays and stitches in the uppers left some testers’ feet susceptible to pressure points and blisters.
Tester-Monial: “The lugs are sharp and deep—completely trustworthy on unstable ground.”
