On the women’s side, Spain’s Oihna Kortizar, the reigning 2011 Skyrunning champion, successfully defended her title (she ran a 4:52:30) despite a challenge from Britain’s Lauren Jeska for much of the race. Fellow Spaniard Nuria Picas caught Sweden’s Emilie Forsberg in the final kilometers to finish second in 5:01:26. Forsberg held on for third in 5:01:57 while Jeska fell to fourth in 5:04:11.
American Nikki Kimball, who finished second at Transvulcania last weekend, was eighth in 5:21:06.
The next race in the Skyrunner World Series is the Giir Di Mont Skymarathon in Premana, Lecco, Italy, on July 29. The Speedgoat 50k, held July 28 in Snowbird, Utah, is the next race in the Ultra SkyMarathon Series.

Ultra Trail Mount Fuji
The first annual Ultra Trail Mount Fuji was held Saturday. The 160K race from Shizuoka to Yamanashi was the first 100-mile race held in Japan, and was set to debut last year before a devastating earthquake hit the country.
Julien Chorier of France was first across the line in a time of 18:53:12, over 30 minutes ahead of Canadian Adam Campbell, who was second in 19:26:29. Kenichi Yamamoto of Japan was third in 21:15:02.
Spain’s Nerea Martinez dominated the women’s race, winning in 22:03:09, over two and a half hours ahead of Japan’s Hiroko Suzuki, who was second in 24:48:17. Nora Senn of Hong Kong was third in 26:07:45.
