The Year the Barkley Won
A raw look at the 2018 Barkley Marathons from the perspective of participant Jamil Coury. Nobody finished.
Trail Runner Magazine March 29th, 2018
The 2018 Barkley Marathons started at 9:33 a.m. on Saturday, March 24th at Frozen Head State Park in Tennessee. Within around 40 hours, all 40 entrants would tap out, enduring “taps” played by a Barkley bugler to signal the end of their race (one of many rituals at the Barkley Marathons). As Keith Dunn reported on Twitter, Laz (race director, Lazarus “Laz” Lake) commented that “the quality of the runners this year was obvious because they failed faster.”
The snow, rain and muddy vertical skating rink of the course won this year.
